Background Company Information

 

·              The St. Francisville Transitory Theatre began as the Eagle Scout Project of now Artistic Director James Lanius. That production was a booming success and since then the company has only grown. Up to this point the company has been funded by private donations a student grants. The company is currently working to file Articles of Incorporation. Once incorporated the company will seek tax exempt public charity status under section 501(c)3. With incorporation, an advisory board will come into existence to oversee the company.  The company will continue to be run as it has since its creation by Artistic Directors James Lanius and Andrew Farrier, both students set to receive their Bachelor’s degrees in theatre this year. With no permanent location, the St. Francisville Transitory Theatre has always made good use of the beautiful town of St. Francisville, staging performances in any location available, from parks to abandoned warehouses. Thus far we have only repeated a location once.

This production will be the tenth for the company and by far the largest.

Goals  

-To provide opportunities for education, performance and culture to the students and residents of West Feliciana Parish.

-The production of a play provides opportunities for students of any age to learn life skills in the areas of:

  • Communication
  • Time Management
  • Organization
  • Work Ethic
  • Creativity
  • Team Work
  • Accountability

-It will also provides opportunities for educational experience in the theatrical areas of:

  • Acting
  • Directing
  • Scenic Construction
  • Lighting (design and technical)
  • Sound (design and technical)
  • Costumes (design and construction)
  • Properties (design and construction)
  • Musical creation and performance
  • Stage Management
  • Production Administration
  • Marketing and Promotions
  • Box Office and Merchandising

-The show will be an original piece created by the company and will provide the community with artistic value. This will help our community to become a more appealing destination for potential tourists and residents as well as providing opportunities for more prospective grants and funding opportunities.

-We will provide an important cultural experience to residents who otherwise may not have had the opportunity to see live theatrical production.

-For audiences the show will be an exciting, thought provoking, family friendly experience.

Mission

The mission of the St. Francisville Transitory Theatre is to be a leader in the ongoing artistic revolution in St. Francisville and the surrounding area, expanding the cultural experience of the community by bringing passionately creative theatre to audiences to whom it has been heretofore unfamiliar, in an effort to illuminate their history, current issues, and hopes for the future.


The creation of this work will give our company of both experienced and aspiring theatre artists a place to learn and experiment with both new and old material examined anew through the methods of diverse theatrical cultures from around the globe and their particular significance for our community.
